Clean It Zero Original Cleansing Balm
A solid sherbet balm that melts on skin contact, lifts off sunscreen and makeup, then rinses off with water.
Dry skin's cleansing problem is the tight feeling after a wash — and the instinct to chase it away with a foaming soap that leaves the face squeaky. That squeak is the barrier being stripped. Dry skin already makes less of its own oil than other types, so there's less to spare, and a harsh, alkaline wash takes what little there is while roughing up the skin's protective layer on the way through. Matching the wash to skin's own slightly acidic pH is what avoids that tight finish, and at night an oil cleanser lifts the sunscreen and makeup that water alone can't shift. Three Korean cleansers that suit dry skin, chosen on what the ingredient lists actually carry: a low-pH daily gel, a fragrance-free wash built for a stressed barrier, and a nourishing oil for the first cleanse.
1025 Dokdo Cleanser
A low-pH cream-to-foam wash, made near skin's own pH so it's less likely to leave dry skin tight. The gentle daily default.
Atobarrier365 Bubble Cleanser
A pre-foamed, fragrance-free wash with the fewest things in it to react to — no rubbing a lather up against a tender face.
Black Rice Moisture Cleansing Oil
A light oil the maker says removes sunscreen and waterproof makeup. The oil-cleanse half of a nightly double cleanse.

The aim with dry skin is a gentle wash you don’t overuse. Two things decide whether a cleanser fits.
The first is pH. Your skin’s surface sits at a slightly acidic pH — the Cleveland Clinic puts the adult norm at about 5.5, and notes that bar soap sits higher than a facial cleanser and can strip skin of its natural oils and bacteria, disrupting that balance. On dry skin, which has less oil to give up to begin with, that is the tight, flaky feeling you are trying to avoid. A cleanser formulated near skin’s own pH cleans without it.
The second is knowing when to reach for oil. Sunscreen and makeup will not dissolve in water, so a water-based wash makes you work at them — longer contact, more friction, more of the oil dry skin cannot spare. Oil dissolves oil, and an oil cleanser takes the day off in one pass, then rinses, and it’s the gentlest way to take the day off at night. Used before your water wash, that’s the double cleanse — oil first, then a gentle second wash.
One habit matters as much as the products: cleanse once at night with intent, go lighter in the morning (a splash of water suits a lot of dry skin), and moisturise while your face is still damp.
Best for the everyday wash — a low-pH formula made to clean dry skin gently.
Round Lab built this around deep-sea water drawn from off Ulleungdo, a Korean island, which brings the minerals the brand leans on to keep the formula’s moisture balance up. What matters day to day is simpler: it’s a low-pH gel, sitting at pH 5.0 to 6.0, so it cleans in the range your skin’s barrier is happy with. A cleanser at this pH is less likely to leave skin feeling tight.
It’s gentle enough for morning and night, though a lot of dry skin does better with just a splash of water in the morning and this at night. The formula is vegan and cruelty-free. One note for the fragrance-wary: it isn’t labelled fragrance-free, so if your skin is reactive as well as dry, the AESTURA below is the safer call. For most dry skin, this is the one to start with — hard to overdo and the least fuss.
Best for dry skin that’s also reactive — tight, easily irritated, or going through a flare.
What this one removes is reasons to react. It comes out of the bottle already foamed, so you’re not working a lather up against a dry, tender face. The ingredient list is short and mild — glucoside surfactants, a little green tea extract — with no fragrance, no colourants and no mineral oil. Note what it doesn’t carry: there are no ceramides or barrier lipids in this formula, so it is a gentle wash rather than a treatment. That job belongs to what you put on afterwards.
The trade-off is the format and the price. A pre-foamed cleanser has no lather to massage. If you like that feeling, it can seem like not much is happening. It’s also the priciest of the three. For skin that reads tight or flares easily, though, spending a little more to take irritation off the table earns its keep.
Best for taking sunscreen and makeup off at night, before your water wash.
The night step dry skin gains most from is the one people skip: an oil cleanse. Sunscreen and makeup don’t come off with water, and scrubbing at them with a foaming wash is exactly the harsh cleansing dry skin can’t afford. Haruharu says this oil removes sunscreen and waterproof makeup. Like most cleansing oils, it’s made to turn milky with water and rinse off. It’s built on black rice bran in a formula the brand puts at over 95% naturally derived. The brand also lists it as non-comedogenic.
Use it first, before one of the gentle water washes above — that’s the dry-skin routine in two steps at night. It’s the cheapest pick here. The one limit is the obvious one: it’s a first cleanse, not your only cleanse, so it needs a water wash after it.
For most dry skin, the Round Lab gel is the daily answer — gentle, low in pH and easy to keep up with morning and night. If your skin is reactive as well as dry, or it’s going through a tight, flaky patch, the AESTURA is the gentler choice, worth the extra for the fragrance-free, low-friction wash. And whichever daily cleanser you land on, put the Haruharu oil in front of it at night if you wear sunscreen or makeup, so the heavy work is done before the water step rather than scrubbed at.
Dry skin rewards a lighter touch at the sink more than a stronger cleanser. Wash once at night with a gentle, low-pH formula, use an oil first if you’ve sunscreen or makeup to remove, and go easy in the morning — then get a moisturiser on while your skin is still damp. The Round Lab gel covers the daily job for most people and is the one to start with; reach for the AESTURA if your barrier needs the extra care, and keep the Haruharu oil on hand for the nights the day needs melting off first.
